Universal Prekindergarten Evaluator 2016-2017

The New York City Division of Early Childhood Education is seeking Universal Prekindergarten Proposal Evaluators for 2016-2017 school year. This position is project-based and will be assigned as needed throughout the year. Evaluators will evaluate UPK proposals and conduct interviews and programmatic visits as part of 3- or 4-person team.


Selection Criteria:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience and experience in and knowledge of Early Childhood education (pre-K through grade 2).
  • Ability to work at least 5 days per week for up to 7 hours per day during assigned times, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Schedule to be determined.
  • Ability to evaluate written proposals based on scoring rubric.
  • Ability to work with team members to discuss and work through scoring discrepancies.
  • Ability to conduct interview and programmatic visits with team members throughout assigned borough.
  • Ability to work in a fast‐paced, intense environment both individually and in teams and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Training is mandatory. Dates and hours are to be determined. Candidates who are not able to attend the scheduled training session will not be hired.
  • Read and score written proposals.
  • Conduct and score programmatic visits.
  • Conference with team members to determine final score and potential award recommendation.
  • Complete appropriate documentation and maintain written and electronic records.
  • Meet all deadlines.

Location: Travel across NYC area required. Locations are at Pre-K Borough Offices and/or visits to prospective Pre-K program sites across the city.


Work Schedule: Ability to work at least 5 days per week beginning September 2016, up to 7 hours per day, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Exact start and end dates of position are to be determined. Staff will be asked to work more than 5 hours per day if required. Specific hours and schedules are not guaranteed. Schedule to be determined and will remain subject to change.


Timeframe: Position will commence on/around September 2016 and end/around June 2017. Evaluators will be asked to work as needed throughout the year.
