The Division of Early Childhood Education (DECE) administers Pre-K programs for NYC students in public elementary schools, NYCDOE Pre-K Centers, and New York City Early Education Centers (NYEECs). DECE provides families access to high quality early childhood options that prepare their children for academic success and the skills to lead a successful life. Working together with families and programs, DECE ensures that children are engaged, nurtured and supported with the tools needed to develop into independent learners and creative problem-solvers.

The Pre-K Center Strategic Support Consultant will assist the DECE Pre-K Center Support Team across a number of key work streams to ensure that Pre-K Centers across the city are fully prepared and equipped to deliver high-quality Pre-K and 3-K.

Key Pre-K Center work streams include:

Communications Management: Manage and refine our communications systems while developing strategic messaging for key inquiries, events, and policies.

Relationship Management: Develop strong partnerships with teams to collaborate on strategic projects. Build and manage relationships with school leaders and key stakeholders.

Resource Management and Development: Maintain and update key datasets, written and recorded resources to ensure their accuracy, help inform as well as empower the team, school leaders, and partners.

Furniture & Materials Logistics: Ensure that all new sites have the necessary items to serve students when they arrive through the project management of the furniture and materials needs which result from the annual citywide changes in size and locations of district schools and Pre-K Centers.

Facilities Issue Resolution: Monitor and facilitate resolutions to Pre-K center facilities issues in partnership with school leaders, the School Construction Authority, and Division of School Facilities to ensure sound and safe facilities for students.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • Master’s degree preferred 
  • Experience building and/or maintain large datasets or dashboards 
  • High level of attention to detail 
  • Excellent communications skills for both sharing information effectively and confidently, both verbally and in writing, to internal and external stakeholders 
  • Systems thinker with mix of analytical, logical, and creative problem solving skills 
  • Ability to organize and present facts and figures in a clear, concise, and logical manner, both orally and in writing 
  • Experience working with a wide range of personalities and work styles 
  • Ability to adapt, stay focused, maintain composure when working on tight timelines under complex and changing circumstances 
  • Willingness dive in on new projects wherever needed with enthusiasm and an all-hands-on-deck mentality 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications especially Excel

Term of Employment, Reporting Structure, and Pay Rate

The role is a 9-12 month consultancy, starting ASAP. The Pre-K Center Support Consultant reports to the Director of Pre-K Center Support - Policy and Program Management in the Division of Early Childhood Education. The pay rate for this role is $30-35 an hour depending on experience and is eligible for sick leave benefits.
